At the age of nine, I had a passing thought, of a girl in vibrant colors, surrounded by a world of greyscale. The idea came quickly, but left within a matter of minutes, until a day back in 2019.
A woman came into my place of work, and somehow we entered into a discussion about old children's entertainment and literature. It turned out, that we both shared a love for 1950's to early 1980's animated movies. During those years, leading characters were portrayed as wholesome, moral, kind, and respectful, yet also adventurous and courageous.
We wholeheartedly agreed that there needed to be a new voice in children's literature. Someone who would bring back those magical moral figures we had both grown to love.
At the end of our conversation, I mentioned my newly discovered love for writing, but regrettably I lacked the inspiration for any book or series. Smiling, she returned to me a slow head shake, before stating that tonight, she was going to pray for me.
That night at 11:58 p.m, the vibrant girl returned to me, and the name Luma Edgecomb followed seconds later.
At Graville Books, our purpose is to share meaningful stories that inspire readers of all ages, to think, feel, grow, and most importantly dream. Through the power of imagination, our series brings to life, colorful and sometimes grey visuals, that push readers to look beyond a tilting teacup, to seek the glory hidden behind.
Although things look grey, here at Graville Books we envision a future, where kids leave their electronics home and return to playing outside. A childhood, full of imagination, exploration, creativity, and happiness.
Let's turn the next generation into producers not consumers.
